#1945-To Caspar Cruciger

To his Caspar Cruciger, the philosopher and theologian.
Grace and peace!
Yesterday your Elizabeth brought my mistress a golden donation as a mass-present, my dear Caspar, which was very acceptable, and as a sign of gratitude in return I am sending to your mistress this mass-gift which to yours may seem dissimilar to be sure but with us it is sent with a similar will and consideration and I pray and plead that you will not despise it. Sed poterit e colo pensili _ _ _ expendere. Be it right well with all of yours. On the Saturday the day of St.Thomas (21 Dec.) 1532. D. Martin Luther.
Notes: Editors say that the salutation appears to be by a later hand and they would not venture to speculate on the Latin with the missing words. Your speculation is invited.
