#1837-To Nicolaus von Amsdorf

Grace and peace! This Doctor Antoninus (Robert Barnes), an Englishman, I commend to you,my dear Amsdorf, since he is making a journey from here to Luebeck. From you will receive ample information if you want to learn anything about us. I have recalled Simon Hafritz although I do not know yet in what nest I can set this bird. And your treasurers have his numerous family (zahlrecihes Heer)given a very insignificant travel -money. However Luther has a broad back (crassum) so he can also bear this burden. We say thanks that you sent the rest back well provided (ornatum) and clothed. The LOrd be with you and pray for me. The 4th of September 1531. Your Martin Luther.
NOTE: Dr. Robert Barnes goes by Antoninus in Wittenberg. A long letter to this Englishman regarding the divorce of Henry VII follows. A similar discourse is printed in Vol.XVII but this one addressed to Barnes is thought to be the original.
